8 – Lou Camel – the Béziers Mascot
A Camel which came from Egypt with Aphrodise. the first Bishop of Béziers. After the death of its master, the animal almost died. But a compassionate family of potters supplied it with food. When Aphrodise was recognized as a Saint, the city's leaders considered it an honour to take over all the animals maintenance expenses. They gave it a house in a street which came to be known as the "Street of the Camel".
