The Cryptoportico of the Forum is a double u-shaped underground gallery that was built by the Romans around 25 BC. Visitors can access the Cryptoportico via a tunnel that leads from the Arles Town Hall (Hotel de Ville).
It was the public square or marketplace in the ancient Roman city - the assembly place for judicial activity and public business.
The Cryptoportico are the underground galleries - all that is left of the original Forum.
