Oppidum de Montlaurès

The "Elysiques" created the oppidum of Montlaurès in about 500BC as the original village that became Narbonne. The hillsite was used as a refuge during the periodic raids which occurred along the coast of Gaul. Very little remains on the site today having been removed to safer keeping in the local museum
