High in the "Black Mountains", North of Carcassonne is the River Alzeau - the first source of water for the Midi Canal. Pierre Paul Riquet was the inspiration and creater of the Midi Canal - close by the "Hameau de Lacombe" he diverted the stream to provide the original source of water for the canal. This "feeder" canal is called the "Rigoule de la Montagne"
