The oldest “Wine Domaine” in France - the Villa of Quintus Julius Primus - In the heart of Languedoc, just North of Beziers is the oldest (with the land continuously used for the production of wine) historic winery in France. A team of archaeologists are now excavating a very well-preserved large Roman wine making facility dating from about the 10th year A.D. The owner was the Roman General Quintus Julius Primus - It is situated in the 'heart' of the Roman Region of "Septimania" - This name may derive from part of the Roman name of the city of Béziers, “Colonia Julia Septimanorum Beaterrae”
